After a tumultuous launch of the fan-favorite While Guthix Sleeps quest chain in Old School Runescape due to player feedback soon after its release, the OSRS dev team now has updates to address the latest debacle in the game.
While the overarching quest chain has been well received with a ‘modern’ twist to one of the most popular quest chains in terms of story-telling and immersion, there are some aspects that’ve left a sour taste on players’ tongues.
In particular, this has to do with the ‘Tormented Demon’ enemies and their drop rates or ‘loot table’ which had fans admonishing and unjustly singling out Jagex devs.
But the good news is there have been a couple of hotfixes that’ve already gone live with more to come. Before we get into it, if you want to start afresh or looking for particular skills/loot, check U7BUY to find OSRS accounts for sale!
What’s Wrong With the While Guthix Sleeps OSRS Quest?
So what is all this controversy really about? Well, there’s nothing wrong with the While Guthix Sleeps OSRS questline in particular, but rather a new enemy reintroduced with the update; Tormented Demons.
During the quest, you’ll eventually meet Tormented Demons which you can later farm for their drops. However, the trouble is the drop rates for the Tormented Demons, in particular for the ‘Bone Claw’ and ‘Tormented Synapse’ are pretty low.
The chances of getting a ‘Bone Claw’ are ~1/637 and the ‘Tormented Synapse’ was at `1/495’. Since these are ‘Unique’ drops it’s to be expected, but when compared to Claw drops from the original quest in 2008, was only at ~1/256.
Besides the decreased drop rate in the modern iteration in OSRS, the demons are also noticeably beefier with higher HP making them hard to farm in general. Since these materials are necessary for the latest and greatest gear, it’s got fans ticked off.
While the loot table for Tormented Demons is disappointing, the more extreme fan reactions have been rather unsightly to the point the dev team had to address it in the latest changelogs.
That said, if you’re on the hunt for any items, you could always just buy them with gold on the Grand Exchange so if you need to buy OSRS gold, check out U7BUY to find affordable OSRS gold for sale!
Tormented Demons Table Loot Proposed Fixes
For now, OSRS devs Jagex have made a few changes to the rarity of the two items. According to the OSRS Wiki, ‘Bone Claws’ will now drop at a rate of ~1/625 while the Tormented Synapse drops at a slightly increased ~1/499.
Additionally, ‘Bone Claws’ will be renamed to ‘Burning Claws’ to better highlight their rarity as a ‘Unique’ monster drop. There’s also a new teleport item coming to the game that’ll most likely feature as a drop from Tormented Demons.
This will teleport players directly to the Guthixian Temple which should help speed up your kills per hour.
Players will also notice a new UI icon when inside the Guthixian Temple indicating how many demons you’ll fight in one instance to reduce player confusion when being swarmed by demons.
They’ve also mentioned there are more fixes on the way, so for now, only time will tell if the situation gets rectified. But based on Jagex’s history, we’re confident both devs and players can find an amicable solution.
